Small gaps between three almost primes and almost prime powers

چکیده

A positive integer is called an $E_j$-number if it the product of $j$ distinct primes. We prove that there are infinitely many triples $E_2$-numbers within a gap size $32$ and $E_3$-numbers $15$. As

Small Gaps between Primes or Almost Primes

Let pn denote the nth prime. Goldston, Pintz, and Yıldırım recently proved that lim inf n→∞ (pn+1 − pn) log pn = 0. We give an alternative proof of this result. We also prove some corresponding results for numbers with two prime factors. Let qn denote the nth number that is a product of exactly two distinct primes. We prove that lim inf n→∞ (qn+1 − qn) ≤ 26. If an appropriate generalization of ...

Small gaps between almost primes, the parity problem and some conjectures of Erdős on consecutive integers

In a previous paper, the authors proved that in any system of three linear forms satisfying obvious necessary local conditions, there are at least two forms that infinitely often assume E2-values; i.e., values that are products of exactly two primes. We use that result to prove that there are inifinitely many integers x that simultaneously satisfy ω(x) = ω(x + 1) = 4,Ω(x) = Ω(x + 1) = 5, and d(...

Diophantine Approximation by Cubes of Primes and an Almost Prime

Let λ1, . . . , λs be non-zero with λ1/λ2 irrational and let S be the set of values attained by the form λ1x 3 1 + · · ·+ λsxs when x1 has at most 6 prime divisors and the remaining variables are prime. In the case s = 4, we establish that most real numbers are “close” to an element of S. We then prove that if s = 8, S is dense on the real line.

On Sums of Powers of Almost Equal Primes

We investigate the Waring-Goldbach problem of representing a positive integer n as the sum of s kth powers of almost equal prime numbers. Define sk = 2k(k − 1) when k > 3, and put s2 = 6. In addition, put θ2 = 19 24 , θ3 = 4 5 and θk = 5 6 (k > 4). Suppose that n satisfies the necessary congruence conditions, and put X = (n/s). We show that whenever s > sk and ε > 0, and n is sufficiently large...

Small gaps between primes

The twin prime conjecture states that there are infinitely many pairs of distinct primes which differ by 2. Until recently this conjecture had seemed to be out of reach with current techniques. However, in 2013, the author proved that there are infinitely many pairs of distinct primes which differ by no more than B with B = 7 · 107. The value of B has been considerably improved by Polymath8 (a ...
